I see a lot concerns about if it is possible to play Lost Ark KR without an English patch or understanding any Korean. As someone who has played many foreign games including Lost Ark KR, I can tell you that it is possible for a game like this. It’s a shame that I don’t take some time to learn the language, but it is still playable.

In these series of posts, I will be giving very basic tips on using UI elements and memorization to play games in foreign languages. Combining these tips with my OCR guide to translate text, you should be able to play smoothly.

We can expect an English patch sometime after OBT, but most of it will be google translated or won’t be properly translated for a while. So I hope these tips will help you play the game smoothly even though it’s all in Korean.

Questing in Lost Ark

Lost Ark has very simple quest markers to follow. And the quests aren’t very different from your standard MMORPG either. Here is a list of quests types you will see in-game:

Main Quests

Kill Mobs

Interact with Objects

Complete this Dungeon

Use emote in front of NPC

Move this object and place it somewhere

Press F5 to use Quest Item

Play an instrument

There are more that I haven’t posted including sailing, but I don’t have the necessary footage right now and will update the post when the game is live.

MainQuestIconMap

MainQuestIconMiniMap

MainQuestIcon

Main quests are designated by this orange-yellow winged shield icon. You will see it in the quest list, the mini map, and on the world map.

MainQuestGuy

MainQuestGuy2

You can also tell if you’re on the main quest if you see a cutscene with this guy. You don’t even know his name, but as long as you see him he will lead you down the right path.

Kill Mobs

These quests require you to kill a certain amount of mobs in an area. The area will be designated by the quest marker on the mini map.

QuestKillMobsName

QuestKillMobsCount

The 1 on the mini map refers to the 1st quest on the quest list. If you go to that area and see mobs, your best bet is to start killing them until you get a count for it or matching the names of the mobs.

Interact with Objects

These quests require you to interact with an object by pressing G. You will see the object marked by a shining light above it and a G hotkey UI when you get near it.

QuestObjectMarkers

Complete this Dungeon

Some quests require you to complete a dungeon to continue. These will be marked by a blue door icon.

QuestDungeon

After defeating the boss and completing the dungeon, you must press F2 to open the music menu and play a song to exit.

QuestLeaveDungeon

Use emote in front of NPC

These quests require you to use a chat emote in front of the NPC. This confused a lot of people during CBT. If you see a slash in the quest text or the NPC is not talking to you, it’s the command for an emote.

QuestNPCEmote

In this one you type /격려 or press the Y key to match the emote to the emote window.

Move this object and place it somewhere

You pick up an object with Q and then walk over to the other quest marker and place it down with R. You can also press E to walk faster.

QuestMoveObject

Press F5 to use Quest Item

You will see an icon and F5 next to your quest log. This means you’ll have to use an item near the quest market. You’ll have to be in the right spot and very close otherwise it won’t trigger.

QuestF5

Play an instrument

You play an instrument for an NPC or near the end of a dungeon. Press F2 to open the song choices and match the quest log to the song name.
